Photos of Lordi at Eurovision
Hey there folks. Some listeners of the Podcast have emailed me asking why we didn't cover Lordi's fantastic win at this year's Eurovision. Well, I figured everyone else had said all there was to say so I kept quiet on the matter. But, this morning, while listening to the winning song "Hard Rock Halleluja" I realised that at the very least I might as well post some photos I took on the night.
Here's Latvia. A typical entry for Eurovision.
Check out Malta's smooth moves. You guys in the States who have never seen Eurovision have really missed out.
Check out the German entry. Cowboys! And why not? It's Eurovision. No one is gonna crash this party with anything other than light-harded cheese, right? I mean, check out the lyrics of their song No No Never:
My love is stronger now than you'll ever know
and it won't ever let you go
My love is wider than the ocean can be
and it’s deeper than the deep blue sea
My love goes higher than a mountain can rise
and I see it there in your eyes
My love gets tougher when the going gets rough
and believe me, I've got more than enough
Keep tryin' babe, keep holding on
There's a place we belong
Where things are good, where love is strong
I'm never ever gonna leave you to cry on your own
Never ever gonna not go and pick up the phone
I'm never ever gonna let you be chilled to the bone
No, no, never
No, no, never
I'm never ever gonna leave when you're lost in the storm
Never ever gonna not keep you safe where it's warm
I never ever will desert you when your heart is torn
No, no, never
No, no, never
My love shines brighter than a twinkling star
baby no matter where you are
And my love keeps burning like an eternal flame
you can feel it, when I'm calling your name
Keep tryin' babe, keep holding on
There's a place we belong
Where things are good, where love is strong
I'm never ever gonna leave you to cry on your own...
Ahhh, Greece. It's Anna Vissi singing Everything:
I can hear my heart breaking
As I open the door
I can feel the tears
On my face burn like fire
As I look in your eyes
And I know
I'm still in love with…
Everything I hate
Everything you do
Everything I fear
Everything on you
I can feel my life ending
As a whisper goodbye
And I know
I'm still in love with…
Everything I hate
Everything you do
Everything I fear
Everything on you
I can’t believe I still need you
I can’t believe I still want you
I can’t believe life means
Nothing without you
Baby I'm still in love with…
Everything I hate
Everything you do
Everything I fear
Everything on you
I’m in love with…
Everything you are
Yep, the Greek entry was truly moving. Maybe it'll win?
Holy Crap! Who are these guys?
Yes, it's Lordi! With their song Hard Rock Halleluja. And though it has been said many times in the last couple of weeks I'll say it again: Truly it was a day of Rockening! Check out Lordi's lyrics:
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
The saints are crippled
On this sinners’ night
Lost are the lambs with no guiding light
The walls come down like thunder
The rocks about to roll
It’s the Arockalypse
Now bare your soul
All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
In God’s creation supernatural high
The true believers
Thou shall be saved
Brothers and sisters keep strong in the faith
On the day of Rockoning
It’s who dares, wins
You will see the jokers soon’ll be the new kings
All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
In God’s creation supernatural high
Wings on my back
I got horns on my head
My fangs are sharp
And my eyes are red
Not quite an angel
Or the one that fell
Now choose to join us or go straight to Hell
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
In God’s creation supernatural high
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Wow. That's something. But they could never win, right? I mean, who'd be crazy enough to vote for Lordi?
Great gobberin' Jesus, everybody! Lordi wins!
And the crowd goes wild!
Lordi himself realises that his eternal allegiance to Satan has finally paid off.
Even other contestants of Eurovision are happy for Lordi. Perhaps they too will soon sell their souls to our master Set?
Lordi begins the triumphal walk back to the stage to reprise their hit. They can almost taste the sacrifices that will be offered in honour of their win.
That night, every Finn bathed in the bloody gore of Lordi's win.
Yes, this fan knows that it was a Day of Rockening.
The Germans applaud.
Lordi surges back onstage.
The standing room only crowd cheers the Arockalypse.
Lordi wonders if this comely female presenter of Eurovision will be sacrificed to him.
"Yes, Greek Hosts of Eurovision, what do you have me?"
"Oh. Flowers."
"Screw it. I can still rock the house even without a sacrifice!"
Yes it was a great night for all. Heck, Lordi's home town is even naming a square after them!

Here they are at Eurovision itself.
One thing I will mention is that fact that the 'mainstream media' here in the U.K./Ireland seemed unaware of the 'net-roots' movement to back Lordi. I've never voted in Eurovision before, but in the weeks leading up to the final contest in Greece I received numerous emails urging me to vote for Lordi. And I did.
Oh, and did I mention that Nana Mouskouri was also there?

dont forget belfast was represented by brian kennedy singing a truly dreadful self penned dirge

Oh my god, that's right! I'd forgotten. Brian Kennedy with his song: Every Song Is A Cry For Love! Here's Brian's lyrics for ya:
Every song is a cry for love
Every voice can rise above
So don’t be afraid
Just show what you’re made of
Sing it out. Every Song is a cry for love
Every day is a brand new start
Every night you could fall apart
Any time you doubt
The truth that’s in your heart
Sing it out. Every song is a cry for love
Chorus
Being strong, being tough
Never tender always rough
It was never enough for me
In the dead of the night
Only love can old you tight
Sing it out. Every song is a cry for love
Every kiss is a call for home
Every touch means you’re not alone
You don’t always have
To make it on your own
Sing it out. Every song is a cry for love
Chorus
Being strong, being tough
Never tender always rough
It was never enough for me
In the dead of the night
Only love can old you tight
Sing it out. Every song is a cry for love
Sing it out. Every song is a cry for love
Sing it out. Every song is a cry for love

I really wish Greece would have won, but Lordi did really well. Besides, we won last year.
