The Return of the Irish Blog Awards

Irish Blog Awards 2006 Dublin Ireland

Whoo-boy, it's time once again for the Irish Blog Awards!

Now, as you may remember, last year we here at LTA were nominated for three awards:  Best Arts and Culture Blog, Best Photography Blog and Best Blog.  How many did we win?

None.

Nada.

Zip.

Zulch.

We got shafted - like our friends Fustar.

Said shafting is documented on this fine podcast:

Letter to America - Chapter 26 - The Irish Blog Awards

Now, don't get me wrong.  Wayne and I had a fine time as these photos will testify:

It was great meeting the Irish Blog Awards creator Damien Mulley and all the other wonderful Bloggers

But gosh darn it we'd like to win something.  Anything.

Best font.

Or best Aine Post.

Anything.

So I'm asking for your vote.  Click on this link to go to the Awards Site:

Blog Awards Nomination

At of the time of writing this Post there's no way with one form to 'multiple nominate' - which is a shame cause I think LTA should be nominated in a variety of categories.

Now you ARE allowed to nominate a site in different areas - I believe LTA is a strong candidate in many of these categories so I urge you to vote for us in as many areas as you think appropriate - and feel free to blog about this Post as well.

Now, if I understand the rules correctly, the Best Podcast category is for a 'specific episode' - which means there could be a lot of votes spread out for LTA as we've had 54 episodes of the show so far.  I don't have a particular favourite - feedback from fans leans towards:

a)    Chapter 40 - The World Cup Podcast Special

b)    Chapter 29 - The Lift 2.0

c)    Chapter 26 - The Irish Blog Awards

Actually, now that I think about it, it would have a certain Borgian quality if the podcast about the Irish Blog Awards won the Irish Blog Award for Best Podcast.

Anyhew, let your conscience be your guide.

And if that's not enough I include this photo of me pleading for your vote, (by the way my message is scrawled on a piece of paper that has pictures of puppies on the other side - that's right PUPPIES - you know what you have to do).

Congressional Hearings

I respectfully refuse to answer the question on the grounds that it might incriminate me

From AP Newswire: "The Culturesluts denied any involvement in the disappearance of Tony 'The Bull' Graviano at Congressional Hearings in Washington today..."

Caption Competition

Photo Removed

Here's a couple of happy (deleted - see below) at the pre-ceremony Cellar Bar meetup.  I like this photo cause they're obviously having a good time.

I think we need some sort of caption though - so once again it's 'Letter to America Caption Competition' time - whoever submits the most entertaining entry, (as judged by the folks in the photo) will win something from my visit to the Giant's Causeway gift shop.

UPDATE 2:11pm - We're all about respectin' privacy here at LTA - I contacted the folks in the now deleted photo to let them know about the competition and there was some concern by one of the subjects about the possible misinterpretation of the situation which is fair enough.

We're in a very interesting time right now Dear Listener as regards to the erosion of privacy counterpointed  with the ease of personal projection.

Challenge Accepted

Holy Crap!  Go over to our arch-rivals Culturesluts to hear them dissing us at length.  They throw down a Challenge and according to the ancient laws of the Podcast Guild, LTA accepts.  Per Guild rules we must never communicate except via Podcast so tune in to the next Chapter to hear what LTA has in mind.
